What is Bluesky and how is it evolving?

Jack Dorsey, a co-founder of Twitter, launched the decentralized social network Bluesky in 2019. It was developed with the intention of granting users greater control over their data and offering an experience independent of big business influence.

Trump’s win in the U.S. elections drove many users to this platform, adding to the ones that were already unhappy after Elon Musk’s acquisition in 2022. Bluesky now has a global user base of over 17 million. At least 23% of MEPs already have a profile on the platform, according to a research we carried out. This places this new platform on the radar of every media planner. 

Alternatives to Twitter (X): is Bluesky the ideal choice?

For clients looking for alternatives to X/Twitter, Bluesky is a promising option due to its focus on privacy, customization, and user control. It is definitely a more flexible and strong place when it comes to harmful content, false information, and extreme ideologies that are not being checked.

Bluesky still doesn’t have any paid or advertising mode, so all the effort should be organic, but this is not a bad thing. Since the platform is not full of promotions, organic tactics can be implemented and might be even more effective.
